United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)
UNIDO is the specialized agency of the United Nations that promotes industrial development for poverty reduction, inclusive globalization and environmental sustainability. The mission of UNIDO, as described in the Lima Declaration adopted at the fifteenth session of the UNIDO General Conference in 2013, is to promote and accelerate inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID) in Member States.
The main objective of UNIDO involvement in the NB-ITTAS project is to allow reduction of industrial pollution load in the Niger River Basin water system through promotion of the integrated approach for the transfer of environmentally sound technology (TEST) developed by UNIDO and tested successfully elsewhere in the world including some African countries. This methodology aims at ensuring increased productivity, environmental performance and social responsibilities of polluting enterprises in the basin
